About the position:
The Coalition of Aworis and Descendants in Diaspora (CANDID) is calling for expressions of interest from persons wishing to complete a PhD with thesis focused on the Awori people (history, culture, language or other dynamics). Two candidates will be selected.
Specific research topic will be concluded from each candidate’s research proposal upon review by the selection committee and approved supervisors. The PhD must be undertaken at a reputable University in Lagos or Ogun state.
About the person:
Selection Criteria include the following:
Essential:
- Bachelors & Masters in applicable discipline
- Excellent analysis and writing skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Evidence of ability to achieve goals and deliver outcomes within a specified time period
Desirable:
- Demonstrated interest in the research area
- Experience undertaking a substantial research project (e.g. Masters thesis)
- Publication in a peer-reviewed journal
Funding / Support details:
- Tuition fee: CANDID will be responsible for the tuition fees of successful applicants for a maximum period of four academic sessions.
- Stipends: Successful applicants will be eligible for a stipend of Five Hundred Thousand naira (N500k) annually.
- Supervision: Experts in the subject area are available to supervise the research. However, candidates are permitted to propose supervisors for review by sponsors.
- Support in collecting data / research materials: The successful applicants will be supported on the research through connections and introduction letters for ease of data gathering.
Additional information:
Successful applicants will need to meet the University requirements for entry into the PhD program in their chosen institution and achieve the milestones required by the University throughout their doctoral program.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work alongside highly respected senior academics conducting leading-edge research.
This scholarship award is valid for a maximum period of four years (Academic sessions) and full-time study.
Annual progress report is required for subsequent payments.

Your Expression of Interest must include:
- A written statement (maximum of 2 pages) describing your interest in the research project and your capacity to answer the research questions
- A written statement (maximum of 2 pages) addressing the selection criteria set out above
- A current curriculum vitae including the names of two referees
- Copy of your academic certificates
- A copy of your written academic work (e.g. Masters thesis or peer-reviewed journal article)
